Our Worth, Our Lives: Lookmai's Message

Disclaimer: The individuals featured in this video are actresses portraying real-life situations faced by the transgender community. Their performances are intended to reflect the experiences and challenges encountered by transgender individuals, particularly those involved in sex work. This representation aims to raise awareness and foster understanding, and does not depict the actual persons who have experienced these events.

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR)

is an annual observance dedicated to honoring and remembering transgender individuals who have lost their lives due to acts of violence, discrimination, and prejudice based on their gender identity or expression. This solemn day serves as a platform to raise awareness about the pervasive issues of discrimination, hatred, and violence that transgender individuals, including sex workers, often face.

For the Lookmai Project, Transgender Day of Remembrance holds profound significance. It serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges and dangers encountered by transgender individuals, particularly those engaged in sex work, within Thai society. By recognizing TDoR, the Lookmai Project aims to shed light on the struggles and injustices that transgender sex workers experience and, in turn, help raise awareness among the wider public.

Through this short film and advocacy efforts centered around TDoR, the Lookmai Project strives to amplify the voices and experiences of transgender sex workers. This day provides an opportunity to underscore the importance of empathy, inclusivity, and understanding in supporting and empowering transgender individuals. It underscores the urgent need for societal change, dispelling stereotypes, and promoting a more equitable and just world for all, regardless of gender identity or occupation.

This film is a collaborative effort that brings together individuals from various walks of life within the transgender community. Our intention is not to be disrespectful, but rather to address a prevailing issue: the divisive titles that exist within our own community. These titles sometimes lead to claims of superiority, based on whether one is a sex worker or not. However, in the eyes of society, we are often grouped into a single category, regardless of our individual experiences and stories. Rather than allowing these divisions to persist, our aim is to foster unity and collective action in addressing this societal issue.
