Inner Strength: A Healing Journey with Lookmai Project

The socio-environmental factors contributing to depression among transgender women are deeply interconnected, each stemming from the broader context of societal attitudes towards gender diversity and the personal experiences of those navigating these challenges. Addressing these socio-environmental factors requires comprehensive policy changes, increased societal acceptance, and targeted support services to mitigate the mental health risks faced by transgender women. It also highlights the importance of creating inclusive and supportive environments at all levels of society, from families to workplaces to healthcare settings.

During the “Inner Strength: A Healing Journey with Lookmai Project” event hosted by the Lookmai Project on March 27, 2024, at Crownex Decentralized Space, the focus was on promoting and strengthening mental health for transgender service workers. Associate Professor Dr. Nanchatsan Sakunpong, Ph.D., FHEA, an expert in gender psychology from Srinakharinwirot University, presented the session.

The meeting covered the following main points:

Early Detection and Intervention of Mental Health Issues: Dr. Nanchatsan provided techniques for early detection of mental health issues, sharing methods to observe symptoms and evaluate mental health. This included psychoeducation to enhance understanding of stress and emotional management.

Presentation of Information and Education: Essential data and studies on mental health care for transgender professionals were presented. This particularly highlighted the correlation between various factors such as social exclusion, stress, isolation, victimization, and prevalent mental health issues in the transgender community.

This meeting gathered individuals from various professions related to the transgender community in Thailand, sharing knowledge and experiences and discussing ways to drive change for the betterment of all involved.
